Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge is located between Hisarüstü on the Rumeli side of the Bosphorus and Kavacık on the Anatolian side, approximately 15 kilometers north from the July 5 Bridge.
The foundation of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, which forms the second important connection connecting the two sides of the Bosphorus, was laid on 29 May 1985. Work began on December 4, 1985. The bridge was completed on May 29, 1988. It was officially opened on July 3, 1988.
The Bridge Is 32 Years Old
According to the news of Olcay Aydilek from Habertürk, the General Directorate of Highways made maintenance and repair works on the bridge from time to time. On the 32-year-old bridge, a much more comprehensive vision of maintenance and repair work came up. Highways also agreed with a consulting firm in line with this goal. It is stated that the firm has prepared a report on the bridge that includes several options regarding maintenance-repair (within the framework of needs, technical conditions and expectations).
In this framework, on the bridge; The maintenance-repair model needed in ropes, decks, towers and other components will be determined. Highways will decide the tender date; After the tender, maintenance and repair work will begin.
The tender date is not yet clear. The construction industry also follows this process closely. Sector sources said that it is expected that an important and great work will be carried out on Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. It was pointed out that the source required for maintenance and repair would also be likely to be covered by external financing.
