Benefits of Red Meat Consumption

The weather is getting colder and our immune system must stay stronger than ever due to the Coronavirus outbreak. In order to keep the immune system strong, we need to pay attention to what we eat, and red meat is one of the foods that should be consumed. Gastronomy Consultant, one of the most important meat producers in Turkey, and Head of Gastronomy Department at Istanbul Okan University, Dr. Faculty Member İlkay Gök lists the 12 benefits of red meat, which has protein, iron, zinc, selenium and vitamin B9.

Red meat, which is sometimes consumed to store high energy and sometimes to reach healthy minerals, also plays an important role in the fight against the Coronavirus. Our immune system must remain stronger than ever to protect ourselves from different diseases, especially due to the coronavirus epidemic, with the cold weather.

Stating that meat has become the main center of the diets of those who want to lose weight, besides its health benefits, Gastronomy Consultant Dr. Lecturer İlkay Gök said, “Those who want to increase the amount of muscle also benefit from meat-oriented diets. Meat is also a very important source of protein for growing children. It supports the immune system and has an important role in the healing of wounds, fractures and damage to the body. We do not need to consume kilos for meat to be beneficial. Consuming about 100-150 grams of lean or low-fat meat not only meets our daily protein needs, but also provides many pluses. The right amount and the right amount of cooked low-fat meat is actually a health elixir.” in his statements.

Meat contains high amounts of L-carnitine, an amino acid. There is an average of 100 – 56 mg of L-carnitine in 162 g of meat. L-carnitine, which is an amino acid that has been found to accelerate energy burning in the body, has been used by people who want to lose weight recently, and it seems to support heart health, diabetes and weight loss. Emphasizing that it is also important to take this amino acid from meat instead of synthetic pills taken from outside, İlkay Gök states that the absorption of L-carnitine obtained from meat is higher than pills.

Meat is one of the richest sources of glutathione, one of the most powerful antioxidants. Keeping the glutathione level high in our body is very important for our health. Glutathione has properties such as anti-aging, longevity, protection from diseases, reducing the risk of chronic diseases, and strengthening the immune system. Glutathione, which protects every cell in our body from cellular damage that will cause many chronic diseases, also prevents oxidative stress and inflammation caused by its deficiency. The fact that our body needs amino acids to synthesize glutathione and that these amino acids are found in meat proves the benefits of meat once again.

It is a quality protein store. Meat supports the increase of your muscle mass as it contains very high quality protein.

It meets many of your critical mineral needs for your health. Meat, which is rich in calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, selenium, and zinc, meets almost all of the daily selenium and zinc needs, 100% of iron and 26% of phosphorus when 38 grams are consumed.

It is a storehouse of B group vitamins. When approximately 200 g of meat is consumed, 12% of our need for vitamin B82, 3% of vitamin B50 and 6% of vitamin B36 are met.

Good for anemia

Consumption of red meat supports the elimination of anemia in our body.

It contains a high amount of carnosine (amino acid). Carnosine, which is found in 50% more red meat than chicken, inhibits oxidation and glycation; It appears to be a cellular garbage collector that removes acids, aldehydes and heavy metals. It has been observed that in tissue cultures supplemented with carnosine, which has been found to protect cells from aging in addition to its antioxidant property, cells retain their youthful appearance and have extended life spans. While the ability of carnosine to prolong cellular survival is true even in aged cells, one study found a 67% prolongation of cell survival after carnosine supplementation. It also supports the immune system by activating the immune system.

Contains conjugated linoleic acid. Conjugated linoleic acid is found in high amounts in meat products, especially in natural diets. It supports the improvement of insulin sensitivity and fat loss.

100 g of meat contains about 350 mg of keratin. While Keratin supports muscle growth and development, it increases exercise performance and endurance by providing high energy to the muscles.
