Pedestrian overpasses of Istanbul are being renewed

IMM continues its efforts to evaluate the announced three-day curfew and to realize its projects faster. Pedestrian overpasses, which take time due to human density and are not suitable for disabled access, are being renewed. With the study, Edirnekapı, 15 July Martyrs Bridge, Mecidiyeköy, Beylikdüzü İhlas Caddesi and Silivri State Hospital overpasses will be suitable for disabled transportation.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has accelerated its work in many parts of the city by evaluating the curfew days under Coronavirus (Covid-19) measures. The projects, which spread over time due to the disruption of human and vehicle traffic, are implemented in series on the streets that are empty. IMM Infrastructure Services Directorate accelerated its work on pedestrian overpasses whose current situation is not suitable for disabled access. Saying that they aim to renew all the city's overpasses, İBB Infrastructure Services Manager Koray Ataç said, “There will be no problem for disabled people in Istanbul overpasses anymore. All overpasses will be ready and suitable for disabled transportation in time ”.

WE SPEED OUR WORK

Stating that they continue their work with the opportunity to curb the three-day curfew, Ataç also underlined that the staff carrying out the study complied with social distance and hygiene rules.

Speaking at the point where the work at the Edirnekapı Metrobus Station pedestrian overpass is carried out, Ataç said, “This bridge will sit on 91 meters long steel, 6 meters wide concrete foundations and columns. In accordance with the regulations on access for the disabled, platforms are created for the rest of the disabled every 10 meters ”.

Ataç also said the following about the ongoing points: “We are continuing our efforts to prepare them for the transportation of disabled people with the construction of the overpass on the July 15 Bridge and in Mecidiyeköy. Beylikdüzü İhlas Caddesi is among these points. In addition, we are continuing to work on an overpass that will be rebuilt in front of Silivri State Hospital and will be made ready for disabled access in particular. ”

The work done by IMM Infrastructure Services Directorate is planned to be completed in August.
