37 million 190 thousand filter cigarette papers were seized in the search made by the Ministry of Trade Customs General Directorate teams in containers with suspicious content in Aliağa Port of İzmir.
A declaration registered at Aliağa Customs Directorate as part of an investigation into cigarette smuggling was considered risky in the ministry's information system.
A total of 4 million 37 thousand filter cigarette papers were detected in the search made by the Izmir Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams in the 190 containers declared to be sent from the United Arab Emirates and containing "creped paper goods".
It is stated that the market value of cigarette papers, also called “macarons”, is approximately 6 million 750 thousand liras.
The operation was reported to be the highest amount of macaron capture ever performed at one time.
It was noted that the teams caught 4 people on the subject and that the criminal investigation was continuing.
