Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Nature Protection and National Parks (DCM) Directorate General homeland Turkey fallow deer (Dama dama) for protection, continues production and release studies. In this context, 15 fallow deer to be released to nature in Antalya Manavgat and 8 fallow deer to be released in Muğla Köyceğiz were taken into the 10-day adaptation process.

In the Manavgat-Kapan Region, which was declared as the Fallow Deer Placement Area in 2020, it was planned to place 15 male and 15 female fallow trees, which were produced at the Esen Island Fallow Deer Breeding Station.

ADAPTATION AREA IS CREATED

Within this scope, an adaptation area of ​​3,200 m² in size, with areas suitable for hiding and feeding animals, surrounded by a 2 meter high fence fence was created. In addition, 2 meters high shade tulle was pulled inside the wire to prevent the animals from seeing the external environment and stress. In addition, troughs and irrigation systems and feeders were provided to meet the temporary water needs of the animals.

An expert who took all the necessary precautions, such as the collection of 15 male fallow deer tissue and blood samples, which were caught by trapping traps at the Esen Island Fallow Deer Breeding Station, according to the placement program, which was planned to be transported in April-May, when the male fallow deer took the horns, and in the September-October, which was the mating period of the female individuals. It was brought to this adaptation area where the emission will be carried out by the team.

AT THE END OF THE PROCESS, NATURAL MEDIA WILL BE SWITCHED

Within the scope of these works, DKMP teams, who wear a collar that transmits satellite data to 6 fallow holes, take a caravan to the adaptation area and closely follow the 10-day adaptation process 7/24. At the end of the adaptation period, fallow trees will be released into their natural environment.

24 ALGAGICS WERE PLACED IN KÖYCEĞİZ TODAY

8 male fallow deer caught from the Düzlerçamı region of Antalya were taken into the adaptation process to be placed in the Muğla Köyceğiz Wildlife Development Area. Placement work on the area started on May 9, 2013 and a total of 8 fallow deer were placed with these 24 fallow deer. According to the findings, 36 fallow deer live in the area.

PRODUCTION WORKS STARTED IN 1970

The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, who stated that the fallow deer in Antalya Düzlerçam in our country are the ancestors of other fallow deer in the world and that they are in danger of extinction in recent years. Bekir Pakdemirli said, “The first study for transferring this species to future generations and increasing the population was the declaration of 1966 hectares of land in Antalya province, Düzlerçamı area, and later, Düzlerçamı Alageyik Breeding Station was established by our Ministry in 1750, just next to natural habitats.

Production activities started with a total of 7 fallow deer continued until 2003, and production activities continued in a new region in Düzlerçamı-Eşenadası region due to the decrease in the number of fallow deer in the center and the decline in nutritional plants in the production center. ”

PRODUCTION WORKS CONTINUING WITH 110 TAGS

Minister Pakdemirli emphasized that the production work with 110 fallow deer is still continuing at the Eşen Island Fallow Deer Breeding Station. “The fallow trees we will release in Manavgat were also supplied from this breeding station. We have done transfers to other places before. We have released emissions from fallow deer produced in our station to Dilek Peninsula National Park and Muğla Köyceğiz Wildlife Development Area. ”

Stating that they have taken all kinds of precautions as the Ministry in order for this endemic species to disappear and increase in number, Minister Pakdemirli concluded his speech by saying, "We estimate that there are 300-350 fallow in our country together with the ones outside the station."
