UTIKAD's search for a solution continues to alleviate the negative conditions experienced by the logistics industry due to the coronavirus outbreak. Accordingly, UTİKAD has submitted its requests to the Turkish Airlines Ministry State Airports Authority in order to stop the office rents of the air cargo agencies and customs consultants at both Istanbul Airport and Atatürk Airport. However, these demands, which are important for the sector companies to survive the epidemic process, were unfortunately rejected. DHMI stated that the rents to be paid by the companies for the sector in March-April-May were postponed 3 months after the invoice date.
Support packages are announced by the public institutions and organizations and private sector representatives for the transportation sector, which is one of the sectors that are adversely affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, and economic and operational facilities are provided for the logistics sector, which is an integral element of the foreign trade of our country.
In this critical process, UTIKAD Airline Working Group members continue to make evaluations related to the sector and attempt to improve on a sectoral basis. Accordingly, UTİKAD has forwarded its letters to the relevant public institutions on April 14, 2020, regarding the suspension of office rents of air cargo agencies and customs brokers at both Istanbul Airport and Atatürk Airport.
In the relevant letter of UTİKAD; “In the measures taken within the framework of the support packages established in the current state of our country, due to the air cargo activities, which decreased due to the fact that the passenger flights were stopped at all airports affiliated to the General Directorate of State Airports Administration at a time when the state postponed liabilities such as tax and bank loan payments for 6 months. demanded that the office rents of cargo agencies and customs brokers be stopped for at least 6 months ”.
After the health sector, which plays the most important role in the epidemic that affects the whole world, these demands that could contribute significantly to the sustainability of logistics, which is one of the most important sectors, were rejected. In the response letter of DHMI regarding UTIKAD's request, “As the payment terms for the invoices issued to our tenants in March-April-May are arranged by delaying for 3 months as of the invoice date, they continue their activities at Istanbul Atatürk Airport.
Your request to stop the office rents of air cargo agencies and customs brokers for at least 6 months until the passenger flights at Istanbul Airport are back to normal ”.
UTİKAD will continue its search for a solution with a common mind, taking into account the damage that the agencies, whose business volume has dropped due to outbreak conditions, to continue to pay very high office rents and additional operating expenses at both airports, in the future.
