Support from TÜBİTAK to Those Researching the Socio-Economic Effects of Covid-19

TÜBİTAK will support researchers to examine the effects of the global epidemic in terms of social and humanities and to develop solutions, as well as the efforts to develop vaccines and drugs in the fight against the global epidemic Covid-19. In the call titled “Covid-19 and Society: Social and Human Effects of the Outbreak, Economic Effects, Problems and Solutions”, up to 200 thousand lira will be transferred to the projects to be supported.

WHY DOES SOCIAL CHANGES

Declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization, Covid-19 causes economic, sociological and psychological effects not only in the field of health. The epidemic is expected to affect social life deeply and cause significant changes in many areas. It is estimated that the changes will have many consequences in the context of individual, institutional, social, economic and environmental.

SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC EFFECTS WILL BE SEARCHED

In addition to the vaccine and drug development studies, TÜBİTAK will also support scientists investigating the economic and social effects of the epidemic. The Social and Humanities Research Support Group (SOBAG), affiliated with TÜBİTAK, launched a special project call called “Covid-19 and Society: Social and Human Effects of the Epidemic, Economic Effects, Problems and Solutions”. With the call, social contexts of emergency health situations will be revealed to better control the outbreak and be prepared for its effects. In addition, it will be provided to investigate possible future effects in terms of social and humanities.

SOLUTION PROPOSALS WILL BE CREATED

At the end of the research; The current situation and trend will be revealed with evidence-based scientific data. Short, medium and long term projection, forecasting and analysis studies will be done. In line with the analysis and forecasts, solution suggestions will be created that will contribute to decision makers and practitioners.

HERE TOPICS

The duration of the projects to be applied to TÜBİTAK SOBAG until May 4 has been determined as maximum 6 months. 200 thousand pounds of resources will be transferred to the projects supported by the call. The topics that the researchers will deal with in the social and human aspects of the project are listed as follows:

• Crisis management and governance at global, national, regional and local level,
• The effects of the epidemic on global, national and local politics,
• Effective and effective health communication,
• Online delivery practices of critical public services such as education, health, and judiciary through remote access,
• The effects of interruption of education in schools and postponement of exams and cancellation,
• Individual and family coping strategies and their psychological, sociological, cultural, economic, etc. relationship with variables;
• The effects of uncertainty, anxiety, fear and stress on children, adults and the elderly, and the risks they create, and possible factors that reduce or increase their impact,
• Developing emergency clinical interventions and providing psychosocial support to families with epidemic loss, healthcare personnel and all groups at risk,
• The effect of the epidemic on the settlements, ensuring the quality of urban life in combating the epidemic.

ECONOMIC EFFECTS WILL BE SEARCHED

The topics to be addressed in terms of the economic effects of the outbreak are as follows:

• Impacts on national, regional and global level macro, micro level economy, trade, finance, employment and business models,
• Supply-demand situations, supply chains, production capacity, digitalization needs caused by the outbreak in different sectors; access to finance, employment issues and solutions; individual and sectoral effects of economic rescue packages,
• Changes in global investments, trends of foreign direct investments,
• The effects of the epidemic in terms of occupational safety, corporate risk management, new human resources practices, new working relationships.
