He died at Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital this morning. Muhterem Nur, who died at the age of 87, had appeared in dozens of films in Turkish Cinema.

WHO IS MUHTEREM NUR?

Reverend Nur, his real name is Aysel Kısa Akbaş. Muhterem Nur Born on 31 December 1932 in Manastır, is a Turkish film actress and singer. He never knew his mother and father. She was later raised by a woman she called “aunt”. In 1942, he was kidnapped to Istanbul under a truck from the horrors of the Second World War. They settled in Eyüp. His “Aunt” issued him a new identity card and the population was recorded under the name of Reverend Short. He finished primary school in Eyüp, and started working at a weaving factory in Eyüp, at the age of 14. He married an officer and had a son.

In the early 1950s, he started his tour with his friend from the neighborhood, Bulgarian immigrant Üftâde and Beyoğlu. The first person to discover him in Beyoğlu was Ümit Utku, who was a police officer there, who would later become president of the Film San Foundation.

He received his first movie offer from Muharrem Gürses in the early 1950s. He started his cinema life in 1951 as an extra in the film Yıldızlar Revüsü. His second film (1952) was "Kanun Namına" directed by Osman Seden. His name in these films was Aysel Utku. Later, with the suggestion of Ümit Utku, he started using the name Muhterem Nur.

The Empty Crib was the first movie he starred in. The 1958 "Three Friends" brought Muhterem Nur to the "star" class. Fikret Hakan shared the lead roles with three “giant” actors such as Salih Tozan and Semih Sezerli.

Reverend Nur love reached a dimension that could only be compared with the later “Turkan Soray love” in the 1960s. One of those who made this comparison was ügâh Özgüç, one of the most competent experts of Turkish cinema. Özgüç expressed his conclusion as follows: “Even Turkan could not reach that level today. He became a Sultan but he could not see the love that Muhterem had. ”

Muhterem Nur made her second marriage with journalist-actor Işın Kaan and left in 1963. He married Müslüm Gürses in 1986.
