Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Cahit Turhan made a statement regarding the high speed train (YHT) subscriber prices and the Eurasia Tunnel toll at the press conference held at the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) regarding the 2019 assessment and 2020 targets.
Eurasia Tunnel toll increase
Cahit Turhan reminded that the tunnel was built with the build-operate-transfer model, regarding the 56 percent hike to the Eurasia Tunnel toll. Stating that the tolls in the project are updated twice a year within the scope of the contract, Turhan said, “These updates are made under the control of the administration. The latest update was on July 2, 1. In the accounts made according to the update formula at the beginning of 2018, the transition fee applied as 2020 lira increased to 23,30 lira. Increase in YHT subscription fees
Upon questions regarding the regulations on the high-speed train (YHT) subscription prices, Minister Turhan stated that a number of decisions were made and implemented during the commissioning of this service, and the need for regulation occurred in the past time. Turhan said:
“We felt the need to make changes in the direction of providing more realistic, rational and efficient service due to the high demand for YHT, the lack of tickets, as well as the subscriber ticket holder and the high number of vacant seats due to the reservation. We reduced the subscription ticket price reduction from 75 percent to 50 percent in students and 25 percent in other citizens. After launching this application, the occupancy rate increased from 84 percent to 95 percent. More people are beginning to take advantage of it. ”
