Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Cahit Turhan said, “We have reached the tender stage in the Canal Istanbul Project that will protect our Bosphorus and Istanbul. This year we will hit the pickaxe. We will ensure that an alternative door is opened by keeping the Bosphorus open to sea transportation without violating the provisions of the Montreux Straits Convention with Kanal Istanbul. We will protect the Bosphorus from accidents and dangerous cargoes. ”
Upon questions about Kanal Istanbul, Turhan said that the project works have been completed, the development plan of the region has been approved and suspended.
Turhan stated that they follow the process in question and they will start the tender process when this is over. Companies from Russia, China, the Netherlands, Belgium and also from other countries of the world are interested in this project. ” said.
Turhan explains that when the zoning process and land allocation application is completed, Turhan said that they will primarily displace the infrastructures in the place where Kanal Istanbul will be built. We plan to carry out excavation and construction work in an area completely free from local traffic. ” he spoke.
Turhan, Turhan stated that there are many authorized municipalities in the area where such big projects are carried out and that both metropolitan and district municipalities have a say, said:
“Suspension process of the 1 / 100.000 scale environmental plan for the project has been completed, and the plan studies for 1 / 25.000 and 1 / 5.000 scales are continuing. The process is carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. What is important to us is that this site needs to be covered in the development plans for the construction of the project. We expect this to be completed in 6 months. ”
