The vehicles transported by trucks from the Kanlı hamlet, which is 3 kilometers away from the project site, and Tektaþ stone quarries, which are 7 kilometers away, drop into the sea via the connection.
Stones filled with trucks for excavation ships are discharged to the sea at a depth of 28 meters. The interior area of the mire will be approximately 2 million square meters and a total of 2 million 400 thousand square meters of sea fill will be made. In the project, 52% of which has been completed, it is planned to commence production of base, sub-base and coating in March, 2020 in runway, apron and taxiway fields that produce dredging and filling. Infrastructure works of Rize-Artvin Airport, which is expected to be used by 3 million passengers per year, will cost 1 billion 78 million liras.
Rize-Artvin Airport is the second largest sea-filling airport in Turkey. It has a total fill area of 2 million 600 thousand square meters. 85 million 500 thousand tons of filling will be made at the airport. To do this work around 300 machines are working 24 hours.
The contribution of Rize-Artvin Airport to tourism will also be great. With the airport, the Black Sea highlands will become more easily accessible. Trade, transportation, logistics, the region will have many services. Ovit Tunnel, which is thought to be integrated to the airport, was completed. İyidere logistics port starts this year. The products of the East and South East will now reach the logistics port and the airport in İyidere in a much shorter time than before. From here, a much more intensive transportation, tourism and trade to the Caucasian and Asian countries is planned.
