Smoking, selling tobacco and tobacco products were completely banned in the train stations in the Netherlands, as part of the goal of a non-smoking zone. In the coming days, smoking sections at all stations will be removed. By April 1, the sale of cigarettes will be completely ended.
The ban on smoking and selling was taken jointly by the Dutch Railways (NS) and the Railway Operations (ProRail). In a joint statement made by the two institutions, it was stated that the ban decision was taken "to contribute to the goal of smoking-free generation in 2040".
According to the decision, the sale of tobacco and tobacco products will be completely banned in approximately 280 stores located in the train stations in the Netherlands. As of April 1, cigarettes and other tobacco products will not be sold in the shops affiliated to the railway companies.
