Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), academics, journalists, professional chambers, representatives of relevant non-governmental organizations and representatives of the marine sector brought together at the Marine Workshop. Increasing the sea share in public transportation, integration in transportation, post-earthquake sea management, climate change and planning of sea transportation were evaluated comprehensively. Opinions were expressed about the integration of Istanbul with the sea and Kanal Istanbul. The workshop, where ten thematic topics were discussed in three main sessions, was held at Haliç Shipyard. The first session on Sea Transportation in Istanbul, where the problems and solution suggestions for sea transportation were discussed in detail, It was directed by Captain Özkan Poyraz. Prof. Dr. Reşat Baykal made it under the title of "The Past, Present and Future of Urban Sea Transportation in Istanbul". In his speech, Baykal handled with a historical perspective from the Seljuk State to the present day, emphasizing that the rubber-wheeled transportation system, which has increased since 1950, has been put in the foreground of sea transportation and that it is not sustainable.
Tansel Timur, the other speaker of the session, reminded the Istanbul earthquake that the experts warned and said:
“Istanbul is not only a city of history and the sea but also an earthquake city. We experienced major transportation problems in Gölcük Earthquake. We all remember delays exceeding 48 hours. This painful experience showed us that; We must improve sea transportation and integrate with all other transportation systems in order to be prepared for the impending disaster.
The third speaker of the session was Dr. İsmail Hakkı Acar stated that Istanbul has been subjected to urbanization pressure for years and used the following statements:
“Istanbul wants to be expanded to the north instead of the coastline. This trend unfortunately caused Istanbul, which has been a maritime city for thousands of years, to lose its feature and become a land city. ”
The last speaker of the first session was Prof. Dr. Dr. Mustafa Insel, emphasizing climate change, said that environmental solutions should be developed. Marmara, which was formed in the last 3500 years, is so sensitive that it cannot survive if it is approached.

The same fate awaits people here. People living here for centuries, agriculture and animal husbandry will no longer live on ancestral land. Their land is now in the hands of big companies. These companies turned villages into land exchanges. We talked with the headmen of these villages. Almost all of them do not want this project. ”
ISTANBUL MARINE CULTURE
Moderated by journalist, television programmer and economist Cem Seymen, the city's marine culture was discussed in the last session. In commemoration of the centenary of the movement of the Bandirma Ferry, Seymen used the following words:

We are a country that crowned its freedom with the Republic. ”
Poster session at Sea Culture Sunay Akin, a hundred years ago changed the fate of the nation, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk moving from the city and began his speech by offering respect to the Banda Vapuru about our maritime history, he said:
“We are talking about Kanal Istanbul, an important culture that educates Barbaros Hayreddin, Turgut Reis, Salih Reis and Piri Reis, which has nothing to do with the sea today. This project has nothing to do with maritime. ”

Deputy Secretary General for Transportation İbrahim Orhan Demir made a closing speech at the end of the workshop. Demir started his speech by thanking the speakers and participants and said, “Important issues were touched. All project and solution proposals developed will be reported by IMM and shared with relevant stakeholders and the public. ”
