Due to the withdrawal of the relevant company from the business, a tender is being held again for the immediate completion of the tunnel construction, which was left unfinished. The total length of the project, which will also relieve urban traffic, will reach 7,1 kilometers. When the tunnel is completed, it will have the title of the longest highway tunnel in İzmir.

The longest tunnel in İzmir will be built within the second phase of the "Buca-Onat Street and Intercity Bus Terminal and Ring Road Connection Project". The length of the two-lane tunnel was announced as 2,5 kilometers. The tunnel will be 7,5 meters high and 10,6 meters wide.

Construction starts again this spring

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will connect Buca Ufuk Neighborhood and Bornova Çamkule with deep and double tube tunnel construction and will start again in spring of 2020 after completion of tender and project works. The 250 tree that remains on the road during construction will not be touched and no expropriation will be made.

What happened?

HGG Insaat Anonim Şirketi won the tunnel tender with a bid of 109 million 900 thousand 827 TL. However, after the contractor firm applied for the liquidation of the work based on the provisional fourth article titled “Liquidation and Transfer of Contracts” of Law No. 4735, construction stopped at the beginning of summer last 250 meters.

Where will it go?

Round-trip tunnel will be a total of four lanes, Camlik, Mehtap, Ismetpasa, Ufuk Ferahli, Ulubatli, Mehmet Akif, Respect, Atamer, Cinartepe, Center, Victory, Unity, Kosukavak, Camkule, Meriç, Yeşilova and Karacaoğlan neighborhoods over Bornova Kemalpaşa Street Connection to the bus station will be provided.
