WRI supported Turkey's EU Sustainable Cities "Come Turkey Cycling" vanguard city of Izmir on selected projects, 18-19 the first strategy was hosted communication training in September. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations working on bicycles participated in the training which was organized to develop a communication campaign to promote bicycle transportation.
Following the strategic communication trainings to be held in Eskişehir and Lüleburgaz after İzmir, two-month mentoring process will begin and special communication campaigns will be developed for each city related to bicycle transportation.
Bicycles of municipalities wishing to make transport, communication campaigns aimed at supporting the arrangement in cooperation with civil society organizations and the EU Civil Society Support Program II funds within the framework of "Come Turkey bike!" In his project, it was time to develop campaigns. Carrying out important work for eco-transport models Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, urban bicycle transportation in the area for nearly 10 years began working WRI Turkey Sustainable Cities "Come Turkey bike!" Within the scope of the project, it hosted the first communication training meeting. At the two-day meeting, taking into account the European Mobility Week, the necessary theoretical trainings were provided to develop a communication campaign to promote bicycle transportation.
Campaigns begin in 2020
In the training at İzmir Havagazı Plant, topics such as basics of civil society communication, target audience determination, discourse identification, campaign planning, communication strategy basics, media-message relationship, campaign briefing and agency management, SWOT analysis and social media communication were the main topics.
Following the strategic communication trainings to be held in Eskişehir and Lüleburgaz, which will be selected as a pilot province with İzmir, a two-month mentoring process will begin and special communication campaigns will be developed for each city related to bicycle transportation. In March or April 2020 municipalities will implement their communication campaigns. In addition, a report will be published which will guide the experiences of the participating municipalities, the communication campaigns they have developed and the results they have achieved, which will be a guide for other municipalities. This report will create a road map for other municipalities in Turkey who want to turn to bicycle transport.
