Celebrating the European Mobility Week (16-22 September) at the same time with many cities, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality organized a walking event from Gündoğdu Square to the entrance of Alsancak Station with the theme “Let's Walk Together”. Alsancak Bornova Sokak (1469 Sokak) was closed to traffic for a walk, made with arms of individuals with disabilities.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality organized a large walking event today with the participation of Izmir residents (September 16) as part of the "Mobility Week" between September 22-21. Izmir residents crossed arm from Gündoğdu Square to Bornova Street and walked to the entrance of Alsancak Station accompanied by the music played by the animator Free Hug, who came to the event with his guitar. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Eser Atak, Tibor Sztaricskai from the Delegation of the European Union, Pedestrian Association and Bicycle Transport Association (BİSUDER) attended the march.

Speaking at the end of the march, Eser Atak said, “The aim of this week is to draw attention to the problems caused by intensive use of cars in big cities, and to emphasize the importance of public transportation, cycling and pedestrian transportation”.

Tibor Sztaricskai from the Delegation of the European Union said, “The Mobility Week was an initiative supported by the European Union and transcending the borders of the union. We will continue to do so. ”

Pedaled for clean transport

As part of the events on September 21, cycling groups also met in İnciraltı City Forest and cycling up to the historical gas station. The event, which was held with the participation of bicycle groups and citizens, was also Deputy Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Eser Atak, Tibor Sztaricskai from the European Union Delegation, Istanbul Dutch Consul Bart van Bolhuis and Marjolein van de Nadort from the Dutch Bicycle Embassy.
Eser Atak evaluated the activities in the gas building and said: “16-22 is celebrated as the European Mobility Week in September. İzmir is one of the leading cities in this business. We do more events each year and there will be more next year. We do not see transportation as a problem of reaching on its own. Transportation is the answer to the question of what kind of city we want. We see it as a goal of making people happy.. Stating that bicycle is the best means of transportation, Bart van Bolhuis, Consul of the Netherlands in Istanbul said, onur It was an honor for me to ride a bike with you ”.

The event at the gas station ended with the introduction of the Cyclical Transport Association and the documentary screening of "Why We Cycle".
