TMMOB Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, Holiday Holiday and Traffic Safety in terms of some precautions to be taken by the drivers and authorities made a head-to-head warning.

Eid al-Adha is between 11-14 August but when combined with the weekend, 10-18 will be a daily holiday between August and 8. With the use of annual leave, we will be entering a week in which traffic density and danger will increase. However, as we have always witnessed, traffic accidents are increasing in parallel with the increase in traffic density during the holidays, and a picture that hundreds of citizens have lost their lives every year and thousands are injured. This demonstrates the importance of precautions and precautions to be taken by drivers and authorities before leaving for vacation.

According to the data of the General Directorate of Security, 2018 thousand 3 people lost their lives in 373 in traffic accidents and 30 thousand 6 people died in the 675 days after the accident. In the first six months of 2019, a thousand 54 people; 101 people lost their lives in the traffic accidents during the last Sugar Holiday. All these accidents have once again demonstrated the importance of public control.

As the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers and their professional organization, the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, who are very familiar with motor vehicles, design and manufacture according to the legislation, we would like to list the following technical recommendations in order to reduce traffic accidents during the Feast of Sacrifice:

Maintenance: Vehicles' brake, lining, tire, front tool, electrical system, hydraulic system, engine oil, coolant level and so on. maintenance should be done at authorized or competent services.

Vehicle maintenance must be carried out at least one week before departure. As soon as the vehicle is out of service, you should not leave immediately. Before driving a long journey, the vehicles should be used for a while and after the maintenance, possible deficiencies or errors may be seen and the parts which should be used like brake pads should be accustomed before the journey. Vehicles with changed brake parts (pads, drums, discs) must be fully braked four to five times before driving on low-traffic roads or at low speeds.

Tire: The air pressure of all tires must be increased to the “loaded vehicle öncesi before the journey. Winter tires should be used in winter and summer tires in summer. The use of winter tires in summer increases the braking distance. Tires 6 years old must be replaced. New tires should not be used for long periods of time. While tire tread depth is legally required to be at least 1,6 mm, experts recommend summer tires at least 3 mm tread depth.

Loading: The amount of passenger and load that can be carried in the vehicle should not exceed the value of the vehicle's license.

Seat belt and load safety: Seat belts must be worn on cars, minibuses, midibuses, buses and all vehicles and the load in the baggage must be fixed.

Brake and follow distance: Since the weight of holiday vehicles is higher than the daily commute use, the follow-up distance should be increased compared to the empty vehicle. The driver of the holiday vehicle must be able to depress the brake pedal with a higher foot force compared to daily use, and the seating position must be correct.

Speed: Drivers of holiday vehicles must comply with the speed limit. The fact that drivers use their heavier vehicles than daily urban use at high speed and long slopes and downhill on the holiday road can cause braking to warm up and the braking distance to increase. Drivers must comply with speed limits, do not drive tired, sleepless or alcoholic and must not overtake the vehicle.

In addition, drivers should rest long enough to make sure that they will stay in traffic for a long time at the intensity of the holiday and the 2-3 should be given a break every hour. On long-distance trips, two drivers should be set off if possible.

Drugs that prevent vision before the trip and aggravate reflexes should not be taken.

The vehicles must be checked for important equipment such as first aid kit, triangular reflector, fire extinguisher before departure.

Drivers should reduce their speed on gravel roads.

On the other hand, it is important to note that the maintenance and control of LPG vehicles is extremely important for our safety on the roads. Unfortunately, with the regulation issued by the Ministry of Industry and Technology on June 2017; The requirement to search for “Gas Sealing Report için for vehicles with LPG has been completely eliminated. In spite of this negativity, LPG vehicle owners should have control of LPG equipment, including other seals, including sealing. The regulation made by the Ministry should be revoked, the legislation should be regulated with a clear view and the corruption in this field should be ended.

The M2 and M3 categories defined in the Yönetmelik Regulation on the Manufacture, Modification and Installation of Vehicles yani in force, ie zorunlu Fire Detection and Alarm Systems olan, which are mandatory for vehicles with more than eight seats other than the driver intended to carry passengers, must be periodically checked and whether the system is still in operation. It should be checked. In addition, when dozens of electronic components, such as charging sockets, coffee and tea heating systems, air conditioning components and audio-visual entertainment systems, work together in very hot weather, the engine should be exposed to excessive heat and these electronic systems should be checked at regular intervals.

Filling the Traffic Accident Detection Minutes in case of accidents; municipal police, road / traffic specialist civil engineers, doctors and mechanical engineers trained and certified by the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers should be done jointly. The persons who are experts in the courts regarding traffic should be trained and certified by the relevant Chambers.

Warnings and cautions must be observed during road construction and renovation works. In order to prevent accidents due to their insufficiency, the warning signs must be placed in full and fixed in such a way that they are not affected by external factors (wind, snow, rain, human intervention, etc.).

In addition, road defects, which are an important factor in accidents, should be eliminated, the quality of the roads should be increased and the free gravel should be kept to a minimum by taking into account that the so-called gravel accidents occur on the surface covered roads. Drivers should also adjust their speed, taking into account the braking distance on these roads, and drive their vehicle with utmost care.

Along with the issues that drivers and pedestrians should pay attention to, the relevant authorities should take the utmost care to ensure a safe journey for our citizens by taking the necessary precautions. Public inspection of vehicles is essential and our Chamber is ready to be a part of these inspections. As TMMOB Chamber of Mechanical Engineers; wishing a holiday in which traffic accidents do not cast a shadow, we celebrate the feast of our citizens and wish them a good trip.
