The 5.500-year-old kurgan tombs found during the excavations in Istanbul's Beşiktaş district can be seen during the use of the subway. It was decided to preserve and exhibit the tombs unearthed during the metro station excavations in Beşiktaş and thought to belong to the beginning of the Early Bronze Age (3500-3000 BC). Istanbul Cultural Heritage Preservation Board No. 3 accepted the proposed project with some changes.

After the project has been implemented, people who use the metro station and those around the station will be able to see the graves from the top glass blocks. In the statement made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, sun The graves and finds found in the excavation area will be presented to the appreciation of Istanbul residents in the form of an open air museum in line with the decision of the protection board. According to the news of Ömer Erbil from Hürriyet, with the decision of the Istanbul Conservation Board No. 3, it was decided to carry out alternative architectural projects in order to exhibit some of the tomb remains from the Bronze Age on the station structure.

The tombs will be removed under the supervision of the Istanbul Archaeological Museums and will be kept for display at the end of the station works.

The tombs, which are thought to belong to the beginning of EBA (3500-3000), provide a new information for the history of Istanbul. There is also an intensive work on how the Central Asian step culture came to the Besiktas shores, whether this culture came down through the Balkans or passed through the Balkans to the Balkans. Carbon-14 analyzes and DNA tests on grave skeletons will make these theses even stronger.

Two figurines found among the burnt bones in the grave number 5500 during the excavations carried out in the cemetery dating back 25 years in Beşiktaş were listed among the 2018 most important archaeological discoveries of Turkey in 10 by Arkeofili. The figurines, one large and the other smaller, were placed in the tomb with their toes touching. The figurines with incised decoration are not known anywhere else in Anatolia or the world. - Liberty
