One feature of the motorway is that it will take place on the Silk Road route called in One Generation One Way Ot and the project will be realized by Turkmen companies.

According to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, the decree regarding the financial allocation of this highway project and the initiation of construction was signed by President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov at the government meeting on January 11. When signing the decision, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated that "there is a historical moment in the development of domestic entrepreneurship, which has grown and reached the level of social responsibility".

In accordance with the decree, the Turkmen şirtek will construct an 2019 kilometer-long highway between Ashgabat and Uzbekistan between January 2023 and 600 December.

With this route, access to Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries via Ashgabat is expected to be greatly facilitated. It is stated that Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, which will constitute a very important stage of the Silk Road transit and logistics network, will contribute to the integration of Turkmenistan into the international economic system and increase its competitiveness.

The project, which will start in January 2019, is planned to be carried out in three stages so that roads and additional structures are fully operational. The Phase of Ashgabat-Tedzhen is planned to be completed in December 2020, the Tedzhen-Mary section in 2022 and the Mary-Turkmenabat section in 2023.
