İMO Bursa Branch continues its technical trips to increase the professional development of its members and to see the exemplary projects on site. Members of the İMO Bursa Branch organized a technical trip to the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge construction site, which, when completed, will become the longest medium span bridge in the world. Civil engineers who visited the dry dock site in Gelibolu, where the caisson foundations were manufactured and constructed, were awarded with Public Private Partnership Bursa, Çanakkale Otoyol ve Köprüsü İnşaat Yatırım ve İşletme A.Ş. They were informed about the project with the presentation of Suspension Bridge Chief Kemal Çetin.

Suspension Bridge Chief Çetin explained the project's vision, tender information, project structuring, scope and highway bridge location. Emphasizing that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge will be the longest medium span bridge in the world with a mid span of 2023 meters, Çetin said that the project, which is carried out with the Build-Operate-Transfer model, has completed the Malkara-Çanakkale stage, which has a total length of 88 kilometers, including 13 kilometers of main body and 101 kilometers of connection road.

Explaining that they made an earthquake analysis in the area where the Çanakkale Bridge was built, although there was no earthquake risk like the Osmangazi Bridge, Çetin said that the ground was reinforced with steel piles against liquefaction.

Talking about the features of the main cable, Çetin said, “When you add each wire in the main cable, which consists of 144 wire bundles, to the end-to-end, you reach a length that will be wrapped around the world 4 times, which corresponds to 162 thousand 236 kilometers. Osmangazi Bridge corresponded to 80 thousand kilometers. Here it has doubled, ”he said.

Following the presentation, the members of the İMO Bursa Branch examined the caisson wells, which are currently under construction in the dry pool.
