Transport and Infrastructure Minister Mehmet Cahit Turhan, Istanbul Bosporus will pass through the tunnel in the Great Istanbul Tunnel, reported that the work of the final stage.

Turhan, in his speech at TRANSIST 11th Istanbul Transportation Congress and Fair, pointed out that transportation is one of the most important sectors that affect the economic development and welfare levels of countries today.

Advanced transport systems; Turhan pointed out that it offers social-economic opportunities and benefits to people as well as facilitating accessibility to production areas, markets and investments; intense population growth, steps that push the boundaries of science and technology; stressed that low cost, high capacity, faster, safer and more comfortable transportation needs make it compulsory all over the world.

As a government for this and similar reasons, starting from the day they start to serve as a strategic sector indicating that the Turhan, said:

“For us, the issue has two aspects, humanitarian and commercial. If we look at the issue from a human point of view, our population has exceeded 80 million and the majority of this population lives in cities. The migration that started from the village to the city in the 1950s increased exponentially in a short period of time. This situation started to form a basis for many problems from infrastructure to culture and socioeconomic problems especially in the cities after 1980s. We can say that the 1980s are also the beginning of our country's foreign years. Unfortunately, as in many areas, the area of transportation and infrastructure has made progress behind the dynamics. Of course, we have paid for this, as a nation and as a state, we pay. ”

Turhan also attracted the industry's attention to the presence of the international dimension in economic sense for Turkey, referring to the geographical location of Turkey, the hosts the advantage that, when in the past he can not be disposed of right moves for these benefits. Turhan, Turkey is too heavy to pay the price for it, said the strategic issues as they approached the government since the beginning of these reasons.

"We almost made history in the field of transportation"

Mehmet Cahit Turhan, the last 16 years in the field of transportation has made significant progress by specifying, found the following evaluations:

“We made history in the field of transportation. Moreover, we have accomplished all this with the strength and support of our nation despite the global crises, regional chaos and treacherous attacks in our country. No matter what country it is developed, no matter how much it produces, how far it advances in science and shows how much effort it has in marketing its products, if there are problems in transportation systems, there is a problem in social life, trade and economy. With this in mind, we have invested 16 billion liras in the past 515 years to strengthen our transportation infrastructure and integrate with the world. ”

Stating that highways have the privilege of these investments, Turhan stated that as of 2017, 89 percent of domestic passenger transportation and 90 percent of freight transportation are carried out by road.

Turhan, Turkey made progress with the work of the road traffic on the roads split of 80 percent, said it continued as follows:

“We took the divided road of 6 thousand kilometers to 26 thousand 400 kilometers. Thus, 39 percent of our total road network became divided roads. In addition, we reduced the loss of lives in traffic accidents, and a 30 percent reduction in deaths at the accident site was achieved. During the rapid urbanization process in our country, the rapid increase in vehicle ownership and thus the increase in mobility increases the use of vehicles and traffic volume on the highways. As a matter of fact, in the last 15 years, the total vehicle-kilometer value has increased by 145 percent, the ton-kilometer value has increased by 73 percent and the passenger-kilometer value by 92 percent. These figures clearly demonstrate how accurate our work on highways is. What if we, like the previous administrations, were in the mentality of 'one is back anyway', the situation would be very dire. "

"We increased the highway tunnel length from 50 kilometers to 460 kilometers"

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Turhan, Turkey is today located in the north-south axis, at the confluence of three continents, pointing to become the most critical crossroads position in the world, Turkey's transportation infrastructure; He reported that they are re-planned to include north-south axes as well as east-west axes.

Turhan, east-west highway corridors 8 thousand 524 kilometer-long section of the 7 thousand 637 kilometers opened to traffic, 333 km continues to work on the construction work, and the remaining 554 kilometers, the project preparation and preparation of the preparation process was passed.

Turhan stated that the physical and geometric improvement of 18 thousand 12 kilometers of the north-south corridors of 146 thousand 10 kilometers, consisting of 314 axes, has been completed, the works are continuing at one thousand 108 kilometers, and the project design and tender works are continuing at 724 kilometers. Work continues in 50 tunnels with a length of 460 kilometers throughout our country. said.

Turhan, in his speech, gave information about global-scale projects such as Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Osmangazi Bridge and Eurasia Tunnel.

Turhan also gave the following information regarding the Great Istanbul Tunnel project:

Our project work in the Great Istanbul Tunnel, which will cross the Bosphorus underground, is at its final stage. With this project, we will realize a first in the world. We will build a 3-storey tunnel in a single pass, as a single tunnel. With this tunnel, the load of the Bosphorus Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge will be significantly reduced. A total of 6,5 different rail systems, which will be used by 9 million people a day, will be connected by express metro.

There will be 30 stations on the 15-kilometer-long İncirli-Gayrettepe-Altunizade-Söğütlüçeşme line. Moreover, this giant tunnel will be fully integrated with Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport and Altunizade-Ataşehir-Sabiha Gökçen lines. Thus, our citizens will be able to reach Istanbul Airport from Sabiha Gökçen Airport in less than an hour without changing trains by using the 3-storey Grand Istanbul Tunnel. When our works are completed, all districts of Istanbul will be connected to each other by metro.
