The fifth merger of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council October meetings was held in İBB's Saraçhane building. In the assembly, a commission report on the cooperation protocol to be signed to plan the new city area to be established around Kanal Istanbul was discussed.
Criticizing the report submitted to the Assembly, CHP Assembly members stated that the Kanal Istanbul Project was not suitable for the city and that they would vote on rejection. CHP members argued that the protocol regarding Kanal Istanbul was a construction protocol rather than a channel, and that the region did not have zoning. Statements from a CHP councilor sparked controversy. The report was accepted by the majority of votes after the negotiations.
Accordingly, a protocol will be signed between Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure regarding the planning of the new settlement area to be established around Kanal Istanbul.
