In the 1960s, afforestation work was initiated by TCDD in order to prevent the heavy snowfall from affecting the rails around some railway and train stations in Eastern Anatolia. Selim Train Station, where approximately 14 thousand pine saplings are located, is closed to the passenger transportation and the freight train is continuing its activities.
