Balıkesir Mayor Zekai Kafaoğlu announced that the 109 kilometer area of the highway will be used within this year.
The highway project, which will reduce Istanbul-Izmir highway transportation from 9 hours to 3,5 hours, is nearing the end. While the works in the direction of Edremit, Bursa road, Savaştepe road in Balıkesir continue at full speed, Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Zekai Kafaoğlu examined the works on site. Receiving information from the contractor companies about the highway, Chairman Kafaoğlu said, “One of the 10 major projects in the world is the Istanbul-İzmir Highway project. It is a project worth approximately 6,9 billion dollars. There is an expropriation price of 2.9 billion TL. If you put it on top of each other, there is a cost of over 8 billion dollars. Balıkesir is very lucky in this sense. The Istanbul-Izmir Motorway passes through Balıkesir. The Çanakkale Bridge project, which will come after it, will also merge with this highway. It will be approximately 433 kilometers long. 109 kilometers of this remain within the city limits of Balıkesir. Especially those who will come from Istanbul and Bursa direction and go to Edremit Ayvalık direction, which is our tourism region, will be opened between 29 kilometers north and west intersection by the end of the year. The drivers who will come from Istanbul and go to the gulf line will enter the gulf road from Dallimandira location, which will depart from Yenikoy location without entering the city traffic. It will be a serious fuel and time saving. ”
Mayor Kafaoğlu noted that with the completion of the road, a product produced in Balıkesir will be sent to all parts of Europe within 3 days. Kafaoğlu said, “As you know, the road was completed until Bursa with Osmangazi Bridge. Even this reflected positively on the economic life of Balıkesir. Many companies in Organized Industrial Zones in Istanbul bought from Balıkesir for production. Even if the owners of the company live in Istanbul, they will be able to come to their factory in Balıkesir in 2 hours by highway, and go to İzmir in 1 hour. The road means civilization. Especially when the Çanakkale Bridge project is completed, the export products produced in Balıkesir will be able to be delivered to the remotest points of Europe within 3 days. This road is a necklace attached to the neck of Balıkesir. We have already started to see the benefits of this. The road will be fully opened in 2019, but in 2018, our drivers will start using 29 kilometers of the road. ”
In his investigations, Mayor Kafaoğlu was accompanied by his consultant İsmail Uluhan and the contractor's officials. It was observed that the asphalt works on the Edremit road, which passes through the Naipli rural neighborhood and progresses to Edremit, complete the roads and overpasses.
