When completed, the travel time between Samsun and Sivas will be reduced from 9,5 to 5 hours and will be equipped with a signaling system, and the bottom and superstructure works will be completed by the end of the year.

Samsun Kalın Railway Line, which connects two icon cities of the Independence War, namely Samsun and Sivas, started to serve in 1932. So this line was just like Irmak-Karabük -Zonguldak line and it was one of the biggest dreams of the Republic.

This total of 378 kilometers started to be renewed at 2015 with the financial support of the European Union under the Transportation Operational Program. Total 258.8 Renewal of the Samsun-thick will cost Euro Railway Line Project, part of the European Union grants 220 euros, while the 39 euros will be financed by the Republic of Turkey resources. The project, with EU grants, is the largest amount of project realized outside EU borders.

When the modernization works are completed, the existing line will be completely renewed, signalization and telecommunication systems will be installed, 48 historical bridge will be restored, 30 bridge and 1054 culvert will be rebuilt. In addition, the tunnels will be expanded, the station road lengths will be increased to 750 meters, all passenger platforms will be defeated according to EU standards, passenger information and announcement system will be installed at all stations. Thus, a significant increase in the capacity of the line and the operating speed and comfort of the trains will be provided, and railways will be preferred more in freight and passenger transportation.

When the Samsun Sivas line modernization works are completed, travel time by train will decrease from 9 to half an hour to 5.
