Ministry to Promote Bicycle Transportation

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources is taking action to reduce motor vehicle use and save energy. Until 2023, pedestrian cycling routes will be built in the city centers. These roads will be integrated to road and sea roads and rail transportation

According to the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan prepared by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the infrastructure of bicycles and pedestrian roads (bicycle and pedestrian roads, bicycle parking areas, smart bicycle / bicycle stations) will be built and existing ones will be developed. Closed pedestrian bicycle paths will be created in the city centers. There will be urban planning that will make cycling attractive. Bicycle transportation will be integrated to other public transportation vehicles. In this context, the obstacles in front of the adaptation of the bike paths to road and sea roads and rail system facilities will be removed. Reconstruction and transportation plans will now be given priority to pedestrian and bicycle paths.

According to the report of Esra Nehir from Newspaper Habertürk, "Vehicle-free day / week" events will be organized to raise awareness in the society and going out without a vehicle will be encouraged. A "Healthy life and zero emission transportation platform" will be established with the participation of non-governmental organizations and the Ministry of Health. The issue of bicycle and pedestrian traffic rules will be handled more effectively in driving courses. Bicycle users will also be provided with training on traffic rules. Legislative work will be carried out in 2018 for the widespread use of bicycle transportation.

With the decision of the Ministry, the use of bicycles in developed countries such as the Netherlands, Denmark and Finland will be examined and a model will be created.

The bicycle culture, which is lived by the big and small in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, continues to set an example for the world. In particular, the roads along the river give a romantic atmosphere. Petar Ben, a civil servant from Amsterdam, said: “The bike also makes a big profit. You also don't have to wait long for public transport. It is also very good in terms of health. ”
