About 1.5 billion cubic meters of excavation will occur during the construction of Kanal Istanbul, which is introduced as the 'project of the century'. It is planned to create 2 island groups, 1 on the left and 3 on the right of the channel, towards the Black Sea in Marmara, using the excavated materials.
According to the news of Hazal Ocak from Cumhuriyet, 5 million tons of excavation is generated every month from the ongoing projects and constructions throughout Istanbul. While the excavation sites have started to fill up due to the rubble which has increased in recent years, approximately 1.5 billion cubic meters of excavation will occur during the construction of Kanal Istanbul.
According to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) application file submitted to the ministry of the project, it is planned to construct infrastructure and superstructures, port, marina, coastal structures, fortification and filling areas, island and coastal facilities where needed within the channel. In other words, the sea will be filled in square meters as a result of the project. Tarık Balyalı, a member of the CHP council, called for the cancellation of the project by drawing attention to the earthquake risk.
'WE ARE THOUGHT THE USE OF THE WEEK IN THE 3rd AIRPORT'
It is planned to create 2 island groups, 1 on the left and 3 on the right of the channel, towards the Black Sea in Marmara, using the excavated materials. In fact, as a second alternative in the file, the excavation will be used in the 3rd airport project for filling purposes, if the construction works of Kanal Istanbul go parallel.
BALLET: WILL CREATE VERY LARGE HAZARD AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION
Tarık Balyalı, a CHP member of parliament, said, “The project will seriously harm Istanbul, the Marmara Sea and its ecology. According to the announced data, excavation materials will be poured into new project areas. It is seen that a significant part of these project areas will be on Marmara and Black Sea. There is no need to recount how much danger the sea embankment on the Marmara poses in the expected Istanbul earthquake. Especially the possible buildings to be built here and those living in them will be at serious risk. Artificial islands, which will be created with excavation soil, will create a huge environmental pollution. ”
CHANNEL ISTANBUL MOVED TO ASSEMBLY
On the other hand, CHP Istanbul Deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu brought the Kanal Istanbul Project to the agenda of the TGNA. In his proposal to the Turkish Parliament Presidency, Tanrıkulu said, “It is known that the project is working on two cities and an airport axis on 325 thousand decares of land. There are allegations that this route and the new settlements to be built on the route were expropriated and that these lands were purchased piece by piece by some businessmen and people related to FETÖ ”.
Tanrıkulu briefly asked the following questions: “If the allegations are correct, who are these people, in which municipalities have the expropriation been done, if the expropriation has been made, have they been included in the plans of the regional municipalities? Which mining companies are required, how much are the square meter prices of the lands in the villages on the Canal Istanbul route?
