Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbaş, who attended the “We Haliç Gaziosmanpaşa Urban Transformation” ceremony in Gaziosmanpaşa, said, “The tram from Beyazıt to Şehzadebaşı is a wrong project. But it started before me, it was tendered. We are doing a subway project under it. Thus, starting from Beyazıt, a subway, high quality, comfortable transportation systems will come to this center, from Arnavutköy to the 3rd airport, to be the station here, ”he said.
The ceremony in Gaziosmanpaşa Square was attended by Environment and Urban Planning Minister Mehmet Özhaseki, Governor of Istanbul Vasip Şahin, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Kadir Topbaş, Ak Party Istanbul Provincial Mayor Selim Temurci, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hasan Tahsin Usta and Bayrampaşa Mayor Atilla Aydıner.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mehmet Özhaseki said, “We are in an era of rapid change. It is changing very rapidly in our country. Good work is happening in many areas. But when we look at the past, we also see that if we make a short calculation; Migrations started in the 50s. People have come to metropolitan cities. Nobody has the right to say why are you coming anyway. If they were comfortable in their places, if they had a livelihood, if they could find peace, if all their needs were met, nobody would come here. Nobody would leave their hometown. Unfortunately, they were hosted here with two types of welcoming. One group said 'why are you coming, if you build a shanty house, I will wash it'. In another group mentality, 'yes they should come on the foundations and the treasury. We take it to mass actions. We use them in line with our own ideology, 'they thought. And around the metropolitan cities, those buildings that we call suburbs have emerged disastrously. The late Özal brought architects from abroad and showed him around Mamak, saying "what is the solution?" he asked. I am telling briefly, the architects said, "Were there no administrators in this country when these people came?" they said. There was. 'Were there no municipalities?' 'Were there ministries?', Of course. 'Didn't you have a man to draw two lines?' they said. "If two straight lines were drawn, the roads would be clear, the infrastructure would be clear, the buildings would be seated accordingly."
"Ride a horse, put on a sword"
Özhaseki said, “Sometimes it sounds to me. Some of our opposition party mayor friends said, 'We will do very nice urban transformations in our district, but they will not allow us from the ministries. They are Ak Parti members. That's why we can't do anything, they say things like 'We are tied.' I declare from the very open Gaziosmanpaşa Square, democracy square; Whoever wants to do urban transformation, who wants to serve, who wants to make our people happy, our door is wide open. Ride a horse, wear a sword. They shouldn't find any excuses. "We are ready to help whoever wants to do whatever business, regardless of his political view or party," he said.
