Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, the third bridge of the Bosphorus and the widest bridge in the world, is in service from today. The opening of the highway and connection roads of the bridge is opened with a ceremony attended by President Erdoğan, Parliament Speaker Kahraman and Prime Minister Yıldırım.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım came to the ceremony held in Sarıyer Garipçe by helicopter. First Lady Emine Erdogan accompanied Erdogan, who came to the podium among citizens' shows of affection. Before the opening, President Erdoğan visited the tomb of Yavuz Sultan Selim Han, which is called the bridge, and came to the ceremony area by helicopter.

In addition to President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Yıldırım, Parliament Speaker İsmail Kahraman, Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, 11th President Abdullah Gül, former Prime Minister and AK Party Konya Deputy Ahmet Davutoğlu, Bahrain King Hamed bin Isa Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidential Council Bakir Izetbegovic, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov, TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, Pakistan Punjab Province Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic, Georgian First Deputy Prime Minister Dimitri Kumsisihvili were also attending.

The ceremony continued with the recitation of the Holy Quran after the Turkish National Anthem.

Intensive security measures

Wide security measures were taken in and around the ceremony area. Gendarmerie troops patrolled the task, special operations police also settled at high points.

The Bosphorus was closed to ship traffic.

Armored military vehicles equipped with heavy weapons, including anti-aircraft and heavy machine guns, were deployed at a point dominating the region. Military vehicles will serve as security measures throughout the ceremony.
It was observed that the traffic density increased on the roads leading to Garipçe, where the ceremony will be held. Police helicopters also fly for security purposes.

Citizens' entry into the field began at the 14.30 hour. Turkish flags were distributed to citizens entering the ceremonial area passing through security gates for themselves.

A giant screen was installed on both sides of the lecture. Turkish flags were hung in many places, especially Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.

For the needs of the citizens, areas such as restrooms and masjid are being built, and a large number of ambulances are kept ready.

Bridge toll

Bridge tolls will start from 9,90 lira for cars in transit from Europe to Asia, and 13,20 lira for heavy tonnage vehicles according to axle spacing and number.

Transitions from Asia to Europe will be free.

The cost of the bridge's connecting roads was determined as 8 cents (24 kurus) per kilometer. Fees will be valid until January 2, 2017.

The bridge, which has a span of 408 meters and a total length of 2 meters, will receive the title of “the longest suspension bridge in the world with a rail system” with this feature.

The private sector will operate the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge with an investment cost of $ 3 billion. The bridge also has an administration guarantee for 135 "automobile equivalent" traffic passes per day.

The new bridge is aimed to prevent the loss of 1 billion 450 million dollars annually and 335 million dollars work force loss of 1 billion 785 million dollars.
