The Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Binali Yıldırım, gave an order on April 19 to sign the protocol that will solve the traffic congestion experienced for years due to the narrowing of the road at the entrance of Alsancak in İzmir. After the protocol signed between the General Directorate of TCDD and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, the garden wall of TCDD was destroyed yesterday. According to the protocol, the municipality will organize the road between Vahap Özaltay Square and the front of Alsancak Train Station as two departures and arrivals.

TCDD 3. Regional Manager Murat Bakır said that the 25-meter-long wall will be pulled back 1.5-2 meters, and that İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will complete the demolition and construction works within 30 working days. He stated that after the arrangement of copper, water and electrical installations, the wall will be rebuilt from the inside and the traffic between the TCDD nursery and the Church will be increased to four lanes. Metropolitan Municipality officials also stated that they want to open the road as four lanes as soon as possible by doing more nights in order not to disrupt the traffic.
