United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Macedonian representative Muhammed Arif, activists from humanitarian aid organizations and citizens of Köprülü attended the commemoration ceremony.

Köfülü Mosque imam Seyfeddin Selimovski and citizens participating in the ceremony prayed for those who lost their lives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Selimovski said the asylum seekers who lost their lives were seeking peace, but their fate was written to die on this path.

Reminding that the refugees who lost their lives a year ago fled from the war, Muhammed Arif said, “There are many refugees who lost their lives like these 14 refugees while fleeing the war. Activist Lençe Zdravkin said the memorial service was organized to ensure that the asylum seekers who lost their lives were not forgotten.

In April last year, the express train running between Thessaloniki and Belgrade hit a group of refugees trying to go to European countries for a "better life" between Macedonia's capital Skopje and the cities of Köprülü, and 14 people died.
