SMS will renew ArcelorMittal's rail facility in Spain: Germany-based plant equipment supplier SMS Group has announced that global steel giant ArcelorMittal will renew its rail facility in Gijon, Spain. With the renewal project, the rail facility will be transformed into a universal rolling mill, which is more economical than a conventional double rolling mill. The project is planned to increase the length of the rail from 90 to 108 meters.
The SMS Group stated that the rails produced in the universal rolling mill were less costly, improved dimensional accuracy and improved surface quality. These rails are also reported to be more preferred in high-speed railway lines.
The renovation works will be done with a short period of production cuts in the summer period and this will reduce the production loss.
