April 13, 1896 Baron Hirsch died of brain hemorrhage in Hungary. Many well-known personalities of Europe attended the funeral held in Paris. Hirsch left a legacy of 800 million francs, most of which was earned from Rumeli railways. It left 180 million francs to Jewish charitable organizations and 50 million francs to the Jewish colony in Argentina. Thessaloniki-Istanbul Junction Line opened.
