Kanal Istanbul Project is enacted: Ministry of Transport has presented the Channel Istanbul project as a draft law to the Prime Ministry. Deputy Prime Minister Lütfi Elvan made a statement on the subject and said that after the legal arrangement, concrete steps will be taken.
The "Kanal Istanbul" project, introduced as the "crazy project" of President Tayyip Erdoğan, was presented to the Prime Ministry as a draft law.
Deputy Prime Minister Lütfi Elvan gave information about the last stage of the project in a television call. Elvan, the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications started the work on the project and there are a few legal arrangements to be made, he said.
Stating that this arrangement will be completed in the coming days, the Deputy Prime Minister said, "Our Ministry of Transport has sent the bill to the Prime Ministry." Elvan added that the work on the route will be revised and the concrete step towards the project will be taken after the legal arrangement, but it cannot give a clear time in this regard.
With the coming of the project, which will connect the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea with a water channel, the experts of the subject made serious warnings. The project was criticized as “it will adversely affect watersheds, agricultural areas and marine creatures”.
