At the Independencia metro stop in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, the wall decorations adorned with Islamic motifs of Andalusia, which include the motto "There is no victor but God" (La Galibe Illallah), which is identified with the Alhambra Palace in Spain, attract the attention of those who see it.
While decorations in different themes are used on the six metro lines in the city, the walls of the metro stops on the "C" line built in 1935 feature views from different regions of Spain.

Tiles moved from Sevilla to Buenos Aires
The use of landscapes and tiles, which contain architectural and aesthetic elements belonging to the Muslims, which ruled for 781 years in Spain, on the wall decorations at the Independencia stop gives the station a different feature than the others.
Although the artistic elements at the Independencia stop were known by architect Martin S. Noel and engineer Manuel Escasany, the wall decorations and decoration in the station were said to be the Spanish engineer Don Rafael Benjumea Burin.
Burin, who was born in the city of Seville in the autonomous region of Andalusia, Spain, is said to be influenced by the aesthetic heritage of the city from the Islamic period and especially by the tile art.
For this reason, Burin sent original copies of tiles with "La Galibe Illallah" motto and other Islamic motifs identified with the Alhambra Palace in Granada (Gırnata), which is one of the most important structures of Islamic art as well as Andalusian architecture, to Buenos Aires to be used in decorations at the metro stations. brought.
There is also a view of the Kurtuba Mosque on the wall decorations
On one side of the wall decorations with the theme "Scenes from Spain" at the Independencia metro station, the prominent cities of Granada, Cordoba (Cordoba), Ronda, Paos and Huelva in the Andalusia region, and the 786th built by Abdurrahman in 13 in the Umayyad Period. The Kurtuba Mosque, which was converted into a church in the century, and the Alhambra Palace in Gırnata.
The wall decoration on the other side of the station is a panoramic view from Sevilla (Isbiliye), which was used as an administrative center in Andalusia in 1090-1229 in the Almohad Period, and in the decoration, it was built in 1220 to reinforce the river-side walls of the city of Isbiliye. The Golden Tower (La Torre del Oro) is located.
In addition, in the street depictions of the city, the characteristics of Spain from Islamic architecture such as the buildings with horseshoe arches and domes with ribbed arches draw attention.
On the same line, San Juan and Moreno also find tiles that contain Islamic motifs.

There is no example in the world
Evaluating the decorations, Ricardo Elia, the Director of Historical Studies of the Islamic Center of Argentina, said that the article "There is no winner but Allah" (La Galibe Illallah) in Arabic calligraphy is only available in this metro stop in Buenos Aires in the world.
Pointing out that the Islamic art originating from Andalusia started to be visible in some parts of the city since the 1900s, Elia said, “It is possible to come across tile decorations or garden styles reflecting this art in some buildings in Buenos Aires. However, the calligraphy 'There is no winner but God' is not available anywhere else in the city, ”he said.
Metro management, a few years ago, stalls that contain information about the decorations of the signs put in reminding Elia, although most people decorate the meaning of a picture, not as a picture, he said.
Leonardo Musso, the 22-year-old student who used the Independencia metro stop every day, said that while the decorations did not know the meaning, the decorations had a separate character from the others.
A motto that echoes from the Alhambra Palace to Buenos Aires: "La Galibe Illallah"

According to the rumors of the period, Mohammed bin Yusuf I, from the Nasri dynasty who founded the Beni Ahmer Sultanate in Southern Spain, as a continuation of the Andalusian Umayyads, was greeted by the people with the slogans "El Galip" when he returned to Girnata after a victory. Mohammed bin Yusuf replied to the people, "There is no winner but Allah". When the people heard the words of the sultan, they began to shout in unison, "There is no winner but Allah" (La Galibe Illallah).
In the narrations, it is emphasized that the words later became the most important motto of the period of Muhammad bin Yusuf.
The foundations of the Alhambra Palace, in which the inscription "La Galibe Illallah" is still visible today in different parts, was laid in 1232 during the reign of Muhammad bin Yusuf.
