The ski resort, which was established in the Abalı district of Gevaş, was established many years ago.
Children who started to spend their free time at the ski resort in the village tried to do this fun sport with the cornice they provided from the house without the facilities to buy ski equipment.
The perseverance of Ömer Ayçiçek, who watched the athletes training in the ski center and trying to achieve everything they did, with the cornice on his feet, drew the attention of the National Ski Coach Halil Korkmaz.
Korkmaz took the Ayçiçek, which he realized was talented, and taught him to slip professionally.
Korkmaz told the AA reporter that Ömer came to the area where the training was done every day and asked for ski equipment, but they had to refuse this request because he was not included in the team.
“Sunflower was following us with a cornice on its feet. I noticed that he stubbornly continued to slip. Korkmaz said, “We were selected for the national team in 2013. Today, it represents our country with great success. We currently have many children like Ömer on the team. 55 of our athletes are training here. ”

Indicating that his life has changed thanks to the ski he started 8 years ago in Van, Ömer said:
“When I was younger, I broke the cornices in the house, unaware of my parents, and brought them to the facility. My teacher saw me. Then I attended the training and got my first ski suits. Then I got good grades under harsh conditions. Turkey championship several times, I had the fifth Balkans and I participated in the world championships last year. I was 29th here. Now I'm getting ready for the 2018 Olympics. I look as a candidate right now. We will have competitions in different countries soon. I will try to get degrees from there. ”
Stating that when he tries to slip with his first ski team, he falls into the mass of snow, the national athlete said, “I hope I will go to the Olympics in the ski, which I started with a cornice. There were problems with the cornice at home. Sometimes I could not go home from fear, but when it came to success in competitions, he started to support my family. They started saying, "You can break the cornices, be a victim to you." Many children in the village like me continue to slide with their cornices. ”
Baba Kıyasettin Ayçiçek stated that he is proud of his son's success and said, “We want Ömer to come to better places. I wish the success of our society, for our country, to continue at all times. As a father, I really want Ömer's success to continue. I am proud of my son. ”
