Making a statement about the result of the competition, IGA CEO Yusuf Akçayoğlu stated that the 'Air Traffic Control Tower', inspired by the 'tulip' flower, designed by AECOM and Pininfarina, will add a lot to the Istanbul New Airport in a symbolic sense. Akçayoğlu said, “We wanted to determine the design of the 'Air Traffic Control Tower', one of the most important elements of the Istanbul New Airport, which is accepted as one of the largest aviation center projects in the world and will carry Turkey's role in the international aviation sector to the top, with an international competition we opened. The important companies of the world in this field participated in the competition with their valuable designs. After a difficult selection process, we chose the concept tower design inspired by the 'tulip' flower by AECOM and Pininfarina. We will start the construction of the tower in May of next year. "We aim to complete the Air Traffic Control Tower in October 2017," he said.
The design includes an elliptical tower for all passengers to use the new airport. The tower, which was planned to be completed in October of 2017, was designed with the inspiration of the tulip figure which has become the symbol of Istanbul for centuries and has cultural importance in Turkish history.
