Kurtoğlu, who researched 50 thousand photographs in archives and private collections in Istanbul, completed his research on Istanbul transportation vehicles after a two-year preparation. After his research was published by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Kültür A.Ş. under the name of Istanbul's 100 Transportation Vehicles, the idea of an exhibition emerged. After two months of preparation, the exhibition, which includes photos and ephemeric materials, about land, sea, rail system and air transportation vehicles serving in urban transportation since the 1820s, was opened yesterday.

A total of 150 photographs of nostalgic transport vehicles and ephemera collected from private collections are featured in the exhibition called Travel Istanbul from the First Ferry to Marmaray. Kurtoğlu, who prepared the exhibition, says that they want to reveal the changes in different transportation vehicles over two centuries. Kurtoğlu said, “While I was preparing the exhibition, I made use of IETT's archive, collectors and my own personal archive. I made an archive search of 50 thousand photographs about Istanbul. Among these photos, there are 50 thousand photos covering the last 2 years of Istanbul, and 1800 thousand photos related to transportation in total if we include the 4s. We chose from among the photos that we can date and access information. Photographs of little-known means of transport, which will be seen for the first time in the exhibition, stand out. The first lift of Istanbul, which was put into service in 1958, and the two-storey horse-drawn trams that were first operated in Istanbul in the 1880s are just a few of them. We chose a 10-year chronological display for the transportation history that covers two centuries. All kinds of components regarding transportation took place in the exhibition. Ephemera such as old bus tickets, tokens, cardboard tram and ferry tickets, and Bosphorus Bridge pass tickets are on display ”. It is possible to see all aspects of urban transportation in Istanbul since the 1800s in the exhibition opened by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Kültür A.Ş. In addition to old tickets, tokens, stop, station and direction signs, photographs of land, sea, rail system and air transport attract attention. The exhibition is open until 23 October.
