Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Feridun Bilgin stated that the Samsun-Kalın Railway Line Modernization Project is the highest-priced project signed by the European Union outside of the Union, and said, “We will also transfer funds from our national budget of approximately 39 million Euros to the project”.
Minister Bilgin, in his speech at the signing ceremony of Samsun-Kalın (Sivas) Railway Line Modernization Project, held at Rixos Hotel, said that the foundation of the line in question was the first railway of the Republic, which was laid by Gazi Mustafa Kemal on 21 September 1924.

Stating that the tender process of the project has been completed, Bilgin stated that the contractor who won the tender was the joint venture of Çelikler, Gülermak and AZD from the Czech Republic.

Bilgin, the infrastructure of the project's infrastructure and superstructure and signaling system to be established by specifying the establishment of the project will be completed by the end of 2017 said.

Major part of the Samsun-Kalın line will be made from EU grant funds

TCDD General Manager Ömer Yıldız stated that a large part of the Samsun-Kalın line, where the modernization project will be signed, will be made from EU grant funds, “With the project, the operating speed will increase from 40 kilometers / hour to 80 kilometers / hour for passenger trains. Travel time between Samsun and Sivas will be reduced from 9,5 hours to 5 hours. Line capacity will increase from 21 trains per day to 54 trains, ”he said.
