EBRD award for Eurasia Tunnel Project

EBRD's award for the Eurasia Tunnel Project: The “Best Environmental and Social Application Award” given by the EBRD was this year's Istanbul Strait Road Tube Crossing Project.

The "Best Environmental and Social Application Award" given by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to the most successful projects in terms of sustainability was this year's Eurasia Tunnel Project (Istanbul Strait Road Tube Crossing Project).

According to the statement made by Avrasya Tunnel Management Construction and Investment Inc. (ATAŞ), the Eurasia Tunnel Project was awarded due to its "high standards" as a result of the evaluation made by the independent jury among 28 projects.

The Eurasia Tunnel Project awarded by ATAŞ by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (AYGM) for the purpose of combining the Asian and European continents with the highway tunnel for the first time, received an international award.

Evaluating successful practices in the field of sustainability every year, EBRD awarded the "Best Environmental and Social Application Award" to the Eurasia Tunnel Project this year. In the evaluation made for the award for which 28 projects were nominated, the Eurasia Tunnel Project, which exceeded the standards set by the EBRD, came first by a clear margin.

Prize; It was given to ATAŞ General Manager Seok Jae Seo and ATAŞ Deputy General Manager Mustafa Tanrıverdi, who participated in the ceremony at the EBRD Annual Meeting held in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, on 14-15 May 2015.

ATAŞ General Manager Seok Jae Seo stated in the statement that they adopted a holistic and sustainable approach even though they knew that the Eurasia Tunnel project would be challenging from the first day it started and said, “This holistic approach we adopt is the most important, besides all technical, environmental, social and occupational safety, It includes the benefits of all our stakeholders, especially the people of Istanbul. Turkey while performing a sustainable value added to our projects, we aim, "he said.

ATAŞ Deputy General Manager Mustafa Tanrıverdi noted that they formed the basis of the Eurasia Tunnel on the basis of understanding the needs of all stakeholders and conducting a transparent communication policy, “We have so far implemented the EBRD's high standards in this sense in order to maximize the environmental and social benefits of the project, From now on, we will continue with the same enthusiasm ”.

Environmental and Social Management Plan prepared

Although the Eurasian Tunnel Project was not included in the environmental regulation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) process was undertaken in order to determine the environmental and social impacts of the project and to take the necessary measures.

An Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) was also prepared. The plan identifies all mitigation measures for the project and demonstrates how to implement them in the final design, construction and operation phases. The ESMP was one of the most important elements of international financial institutions to provide long-term loans to the project.
