In his speech at the opening meeting of the Technical Assistance Project for Improving the Institutional Structure of the Railway Regulation General Directorate, Aydın spoke about the works on the liberalization of the railway sector.
Aydın said they wanted to open up the competition by liberalizing the railways and said that if the companies that want to take part in the sector complete the necessary conditions, they could do business management.

Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Deputy Director General of Railroad Regulatory Affairs Erol Çıtak stated that they aim to provide more efficient and quality service by opening the railway transportation service to the private sector.
Providing information on the new structure to be formed in the railway sector, Çıtak pointed out that TCDD Tasimacilik AS will serve as a train operator. Stating that they aim to create an independent structure that regulates and supervises the sector, Çıtak also noted that the said structure will be in line with the EU.
The overall objective of the project, which has a budget of 2,3 million euros, was determined to ensure that the economic, fast, safe and high quality rail transport and infrastructure services are provided in an environmentally sensitive manner.
The specific objectives of the project include increasing the institutional technical and administrative capacity of the ministry, harmonizing the railway sector with the EU acquis, and increasing the capacity of the General Directorate of Rail Regulation to facilitate the formation of a competitive, transparent and efficient railway sector.
