The open areas within the project area were specified individually. It was decided to protect forest areas, streams and stream beds as much as possible. Open spaces will include biodiversity, outdoor facilities, passive and active recreation areas, small-scale food production and vegetation of various trees. Archaeological parks will be created. The zoo will be built near the forested area as part of the open area network.
Upon President Erdoğan's “No tall building” instruction, the building height was limited to 6 floors. Tall buildings will be built away from the canal. The channel will be built to allow the passage of large ships. After the urban design plan is completed according to the new population, the development plan phase will be started. In this context, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and municipal company BİMTAŞ will manage the process.

Canal Istanbul will form 2 peninsulas and an island. With the project, it is aimed to end the Bosphorus traffic. It is aimed to pass 150-160 ships a day from Kanal Istanbul. In the Kanal Istanbul file submitted to President Erdoğan, the transportation areas are described as follows: “The multi-model approach aims to provide the easiest access to business centers, industrial areas and workplaces without causing heavy traffic problems. Bridges that support settlement efficiency and infrastructure and will ensure the continuity of the vehicle road and various public transportation routes will be used throughout the channel. Large intersection areas and high-speed train stops are marked with a white circle, while local metro and tram stops are marked with a thick track. These areas are strategically linked to the central business area and large housing areas, and links to other modes of transportation are provided. ”

'V' WILL BE SHAPED

The project land, which was previously identified as Silivri, Ortaköy, İnceğiz, Gökçeli, Çanakça, Dağyenice, was abandoned due to the high number of lands to be expropriated in the section connecting Karacaköy, Evcik Dam to the Black Sea. According to the plans, the project will connect the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea, passing through the districts of Küçükçekmece, Başakşehir and Arnavutköy. The contaminated Küçükçekmece Lake will join the channel, while the Sazlıdere Dam will be disabled.

Kanal Istanbul will be constructed in the form of the letter 'V' cut from the bottom. The width of the lower part will reach 100 meters, the distance between the 2 ends of the letter V will reach 520 meters. The depth of the channel will be 25 meters. The project covers an area in Istanbul that includes a certain part of Avcılar, Bağcılar, Bakırköy, Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Esenler, Eyüp and Küçükçekmece.

THE WORLD GIANTS ARE INTERESTED IN THE PROJECT

The tender process will start in the coming months for Kanal Istanbul, which will transform most of Istanbul into an island. The huge project, which will cost a total of 10 billion dollars, will be tendered piece by piece. The feasibility studies of the project have been completed. While more than one domestic and foreign companies are interested in the project where the Black Sea and Marmara will be connected with an artificial strait; It is stated that MWH Global, which makes the Panama Canal, and several Chinese companies are aspiring. In addition, preliminary interviews were held with important Italian and Russian companies. On the other hand, it was learned that a very large Russian company conveyed that it could undertake the construction of the channel in order to solve the sea traffic in Istanbul.

LENGTH 43 KILLOMETER WILL BE

6 bridges will be built on the canal. 4 of them will be built as the main road route. The channel will be 43 km long and 400 meters wide.

WEEKLY EVALUATION

Millions of cubic meters of excavation will be used for excavation, port and airport construction and closure of the canal.
