The People of Izmir Can't Meet Balçova Cable Car Facilities Again: İzmir Metropolitan Municipality completed the carrier systems of the cable car in Balçova, which was closed 7 years ago. However, the late tendering of the daily facilities caused the opening to sag again.

The lack of coordination between units in Izmir Metropolitan Municipality hit the cable car facilities. The cable car in Balçova Dede Mountain, which was closed on the grounds that there is no safety of life and property in accordance with the report prepared by the Izmir Branch of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers; The carrier systems are finally finished after lengthy bidding processes and successive auction cancellations. While the trial flights, which started with the arrival of the passenger cabins in the past weeks, are about to be completed, the bill for the late tender of the daily facilities by the Metropolitan Municipality was again issued to the citizens. The carrier system that will carry the citizens to the top of the mountain is finished. However, facilities such as cafes, restaurants, tea shops and WC that will meet the daily needs of citizens going up by the cable car have not been completed yet. As such, citizens waiting for the completion of the cable car for 2007 years now had to wait for the completion of the daily facilities. What happened has once again revealed the lack of coordination between units in the Metropolitan Municipality. It was claimed that the daily facilities, which were tendered on August 7, 18, may end at the end of April and early May with the most optimistic forecast. The company, which started to work with penalties for every day it left behind, finally completed the facility in the past weeks. While the test drives came to the completion stage, the lack of coordination between the units in the Metropolitan Municipality hit the citizen.

CLOSED IN 2007
For the facility, which was closed in 2007, during the 7-year period, the problems in the legislation were overcome first and then tenders were held 3 times. While the first two tenders were canceled, the third one was troubled due to the lengthy lawsuit and the objection processes to the Public Procurement Authority. In the end, the construction work of Balçova Teleferik Tesisleri remained with STM Teleferik Sistemleri Company. Site delivery was made to the company in March 2013. The contractor firm was given 300 days to complete the work. The work, which is expected to be completed on April 30, 2014, has been delayed until this day with 3 consecutive time extensions. Meanwhile, facilities such as the cafeteria, restaurant, buffet, toilet, country coffee, which were rented by the Metropolitan Municipality on the Dede Mountain and aimed to meet the daily needs of the citizens going upstairs, were first evacuated and then demolished. On the one hand, the construction of the cable car was ongoing, on the other hand, the landscaping and renovation work foreseen to be made on the upper part of the mountain was not tendered. When this was the case, it happened again to Izmir. Metropolitan announced on its official website in August last year that the renovation of 14 buildings in the recreation area, 2 container toilets and the landscaping work of 35 thousand 617.77 square meters will be tendered on August 18, that is, 10 days before the official completion period of the work.
