Experts Warned About Burning Metrobus: The municipality paid 1 million 200 thousand euros for one of the burned metrobus and bought 50 pieces. However, while 35 were kept in the garage due to the malfunction, experts warned with a report.
Phileas branded vehicles purchased from the Netherlands have been causing problems ever since the metrobus line was put into service. It often stays on the road causing the line to be disabled. In the last incident, one of the same vehicles burned. Before the purchase of these vehicles, experts had warned the municipality with a report of both malfunctions and their excessively expensive price.
THE MOST EXPENSIVE METROBUS
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality bought it from the Netherlands in 2007 for 60 million Euros. The municipality paid 1 million 200 thousand euros for one of these vehicles. However, according to experts, the tools are technically inadequate.
GETTING TO THE GARAJA
In fact, the metrobuses of this working brand break down due to frequent mechanical problems and have difficulty in climbing the ramp. 50 out of 35 Phileas branded BRTs were kept in İkitelli IETT Garage due to problems.
The reports of the transport experts reveal how wrong the BRT line and the vehicles used here are. In February 2007, ITU Faculty of Civil Engineering Head of Transportation Department. Dr. Haluk Gerçek presented the economic and financial feasibility study titled “Topkapı-Avcılar Metrobus Project and New Bus Purchase” to IETT and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
FOUR FLOOR EXPORTS
The report was prepared before the vehicles were bought from the Netherlands. In the report prepared in 2007, the Phileas model with a capacity of 220 passengers produced in the Netherlands, which IETT planned to buy, and the bellows Capa City model produced by Mercedes with a passenger capacity of 193 were compared. Stating that the total cost of the Topkapı-Avcılar metrobus project is 55 million Euros, it was stated that the price of one Phileas bus is 1 million 200 thousand Euros and the price of one Capa City bus is 1 thousand Euros. According to the results of the economic evaluation, it was noted that if the Capa City bus is operated as a series of 300 vehicles in the morning and evening, the financial internal efficiency rate of the project is 2 percent and the financial net value is 12.18 million 14 thousand 289 Euros. In the report, which stated that if the Capa City bus was operated individually, the financial internal efficiency rate would correspond to 266 percent, “This rate is about 8.24 percent in the options with the Phileas bus. In addition to equity of € 5 million, equity support ranging from € 50 to € 500 million is required for Metrobus options ”.
IMPORTANT COST INCREASE
The report included the following evaluations: “Local administrators generally want to implement the metrobus system quickly due to time constraints. It is possible to make BRT systems fast and well with significant cost increases. For example, $ 6 million was spent just for the planning of the Bogota Trans Milennio system. $ 10 million was provided from various sources for the planning and design of the Mexico City BRT system. However, in the systems that were realized quickly despite these expenses, mistakes were made, which caused great costs to be corrected later. The road built in Bogoto and Mexico City due to cracks and collapses had to be renewed soon after. "
RAMP DOES NOT GO
In its report prepared three years ago, the National Scientific Research Institute of France drew attention to the fact that "magnetic guided" Phileas BRT is not suitable for urban traffic. It was emphasized that if this feature of vehicles is disabled, it is approximately twice more expensive than conventional vehicles, and the reduction of vehicle mass becomes a disadvantage. The most important deficiency of the few Phileas BRTs that are currently put into service is their inability to climb the ramps. When he could not climb the Golden Horn ramp on May 3, he was stranded. The criticism that these branded vehicles could not go up the ramp had previously been raised.
'RAILED SYSTEM SHOULD BE USED'
Yıldız Technical University Transportation Department Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. İsmail Şahin also prepared a report. Stating that the metrobus reached its capacity almost on the days when it was put into service and the number of passengers using the system reached the offered capacity, Şahin said, “However, such systems are used for transition to higher capacity systems; While serving with a high service level in the beginning, as the level decreases over time, they leave their places to a higher capacity rail system. "In the example here, the service level is very low right now as the system was initially operating at full capacity," he said.
YEAR 2007: "THE METROBUS JOURNEY WILL WORK AFTER A MANY YEARS"
Noting that the travel conditions of the metrobus will worsen after a few years, Şahin stated that it will be impossible to encourage Istanbul drivers, who are condemned to a system with low service quality and capacity, to get out of their cars. Underlining that the occupancy of buses and stops is not attractive, but unattractive, Şahin said, “In order for the investment made to be meaningful, it is expected to serve in the desired conditions for a sufficient length of time. Hiding behind the temporary benefit that the system, which has a service life of several years, provides today is a populist attitude; "the problem is not solving in the long run."
3 in the throat with the demand-capacity balance deteriorating in favor of public transport. bridge will be faced with the imposition.
Şahin continued as follows: “1. The type of metrobus public transportation system put into service on the Ring Road is wrong. There is a need for a much higher capacity metro system in this corridor. A similar system to this system, which renews the suburban lines on both sides of Istanbul and connects these lines with a tube crossing, under the name of Marmaray, should be built primarily on the 1st Ring Road corridor. "
Phileas: 1.2 million Euros
Capa City: 300 Thousand Euro
While the transportation experts were preparing the report in 2007, the 220 passenger capacity Phileas model produced in the Netherlands, which IETT planned to buy, and the bellows Capa City model produced by Mercedes with a passenger capacity of 193 were compared. Stating that the total cost of the Topkapı-Avcılar metrobus project is 55 million Euros, it was stated that the price of one Phileas bus is 1 million 200 thousand Euros and the price of one Capa City bus is 1 thousand Euros.
MISSING AND ERRORS IDENTIFIED IN 2007
Sahin, missing the faults and faults in the BRT system as follows:
• The bridges that are located in the corridor and have not yet been completed have to be expanded today. It is understood that the investment of Metrobüs is not an investment in long-term plans even in short-term plans.
• There are also various design errors related to BRT, which is a "forced" project. Due to the road extensions along the corridor, the main road lanes were partially narrowed, the safety lanes were eliminated and the road axis shifts. Even if a little green was slaughtered.
• As the stairs, ramps and platforms are very narrow with Metrobus passenger access passages, access to the vehicles and exit from the stations during the peak hours becomes very difficult. This is another indication of the insufficient infrastructure capacity for passenger demand.
• Strip constrictions and axes shifts adversely affect driving safety and performance, and lack of safety lanes leads to large and long-term capacity losses on the road in accident-failure situations.
