In the historical Sümela Monastery, which has a significant contribution to the tourism of the region with its beauty integrated with nature, it is aimed to increase the number of tourists coming to the region with the works carried out by Trabzon Governorship, Metropolitan Municipality, General Directorate of National Parks and other institutions.
The historical monastery, located in Altındere Valley in Maçka district, takes the first place in the choice of nature lovers in recent years.
The number of visitors to the Sümela Monastery, which is one of the favorite places of tourists visiting the Eastern Black Sea, reached 500 thousand last year and increased by 30 percent compared to the previous year.

Expressing that Sümela Monastery is an important destination in Eastern Black Sea tourism, Öz said, “Sümela Monastery has developed over time and has become an important center in terms of religious tourism. Therefore, important studies have been carried out in this context in recent years ”.
Expressing that they attach importance to infrastructure works for tourism, Öz said, “Some restoration work has been done in the region in the past. There were some missing and incorrect parts in the studies. A restoration was needed again due to the missing parts. Therefore, a new project was created for the comprehensive restoration of the Sümela Monastery. The prepared project was passed by the Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board. I hope we will get the approval of the tender as soon as possible and realize the restoration ”.

Emphasizing that the number of tourists visiting Sümela Monastery increases with each passing year, Öz said, “The number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Sümela Monastery last year increased by 30 percent compared to the previous year and exceeded 500 thousand. We think that this number will continue to increase next year and we are targeting 800 thousand tourists ”.
Öz stated that the number of tourists visiting the region and the monastery will increase with the infrastructure works carried out, adding that they continue to work to increase the Sümela Monastery and the tourism potential in the region.
Öz pointed out that in Maçka district, especially Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, Maçka District Municipality and General Directorate of National Parks have joint works, “Within the scope of these works, we aim to make the daily facilities in the region more modern. In this context, our project work continues. We will be implementing in a short time, ”he said.

Noting that the work on the cable car planned to be built for the Sümela Monastery is also continuing, Governor Öz stated that the tourism potential in the region will increase even more with the cable car to be built.
Explaining that the local and foreign tourists coming to the city do not want to leave the region without seeing the Sümela Monastery, Öz said, “Therefore, I think we will get a greater share from tourism with the projects we will implement. "Sümela Monastery will continue to serve as an important tourism destination in the region, especially with its cable car project and Çakırgöl Winter Tourism Center."
