Decision in Pamukova Train Accident: In the accelerated train accident case in which 22 people died and 2004 people were injured in Pamukova District of Sakarya on 41 July 89, the decision was made for the fourth time after the reversal decision of the Supreme Court.
The court sentenced the machinists Recep Sönmez to 1 year and 15 days of imprisonment and a fine of TL 152 TL, Fikret Karabulut to 3 years and 1.5 months in prison and a 1500 TL fine. Penalties have been postponed.
In the lawsuit filed regarding the train accident, the first engineer Fikret Karabulut was sentenced to 1 years in prison and 2008 TL fine, and the second engineer Recep Sönmez was sentenced to 1 year and 2.5 months in prison and a fine of 1100 TL.
Train chief Köksal Coşkun was acquitted. The Supreme Court of Appeals overturned the decision on 23 July 2009, determining that there were notifications. The local court resolved the shortcomings.
