Sani Şener, CEO of TAV Airports, said the following about the agreement:
A Considering that Ataturk Airport will be closed with the start of the new airport, being a partner to Sabiha Gökçen is an important strategic step for TAV. In the past period, we have established a network that includes all of the airports in Skopje, Ohrid, Tbilisi, Batumi, Riga, Enfidha, Monastir, Ankara, Izmir, Bodrum and Gazipasa, all of which are operated by TAV. Taking place in Sabiha Gökçen, which will be the second airport of Istanbul when the new airport is opened, will maintain this efficiency. In this context, we started negotiations with Limak and reached an agreement. The agreement had logical reasons for meeting both sides at a common point. Limak's new airport is the consortium of the consortium of the partners who want to concentrate there, and for the reasons I explained above, our desire to move our operations in Istanbul after 2021 has opened the way for this agreement. At the end of last year, TAV Group was also interested in the 40 share of the Indian partner GMR. The GMR, which had experienced the economic downturn, had used its preference in the other common Malaysian MAH direction. GMR announced last May that the sale of shares was completed by 296 million dollars. The GMR stated that the amount of debt to the MAH was closed for this sale. With the purchase of 40 shares, MAH still holds 60 shares of Sabiha Gökçen.
The establishment of Sabiha Gökçen Airport was decided on 1987. The foundation of the project, which was to be established in Kurtköy, was to establish the connection between the World of Technology (ITEP) and the world as well as for the cargo needs of the Anatolian side in 1998. The airport, made by the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM), cost 550 million dollars.
The operating right of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport was transferred to Limak Holding, India's GMR Infrastructure and Malaysian Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad partnership in 1 May 2008. ISG 20, which undertook the operation of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen, acquired the annual operating right for 1 billion 932 million Euros. Last April, 30 transferred the company shares to the Malaysian partner.
In the 2001 where it opened, only the airport serving 47 thousand passengers remained idle for a long time. As of 2005, traffic started to increase in Sabiha Gökçen with Pegasus Airlines. With the increase in the demand for Istanbul, Sabiha Gökçen was preferred especially by low cost airlines.
When the 3,5 million passenger / year capacity terminal is idle when switched on, SSM is auctioned by 2007 with build-operate-transfer method. The auction was won by the Limak-GMR-Malaysia joint venture. The consortium, which gave 1,9 annually to the enterprise for a total of 20 billion Euro + VAT offer, began its work for the construction of annual 25 million passenger capacity in May 2008.
Following the foundation, the consortium completed the construction of the airport within 18 months and completed the 250 million passenger / year terminal with an investment of 25 million Euros. 320 bin 5 car park with 350 thousand square meters closed area and 60 room hotel was put into service. Currently, there are 120 check-in points and 42 passport counters at the airport. The 7 bin 7 suitcase is the hourly capacity of the total 5000 baggage purchase band.
Sabiha Gokcen Airport, with its new terminal, where both domestic and international operations were gathered in one building, achieved a rapid exit. Following the launch of Pegasus, SunExpress, the airport that grew with THY's sub-brand AnadoluJet operation, captured 18,5 million passengers at the end of last year. During the last Ramadan Feast, the airport exceeded the daily 90 thousand passengers.
Currently, weekly scheduled flights to Sabiha Gokcen 1376. 69 of the incoming airlines is European, the 25 is the Middle East and the 6 is the African companies.
NEW RANGE AND TERMINAL TO BE DONE
Sabiha Gökçen, which is one of the fastest growing airports in Europe, is planning to start the second stage of the project. Parallel runway targets to increase aircraft traffic by at least twice. According to the plan, the total length of the 3 bin will be 500 meters. 380 million cubic meters of filling will be performed in the region.
At the same time, the terminal will be constructed between two runways, in which the planes can descend. The capacity of Sabiha Gökçen, which will increase its operation even more thanks to satellite terminal, will reach 50 million passengers annually. The 115 meter-high air traffic control tower will also be constructed for safer management of the flight operation.
CARE OF THE MAINTENANCE
In addition to passenger and cargo operations, Sabiha Gökçen Airport is also an important maintenance center. HABOM (Aviation Maintenance and Repair Center), which will serve THY's customer aircraft, has become one of the most important aircraft maintenance facilities in the region, called MRO. TEC (Turkish Engine Center), which Turkish Airlines has opened with engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, also carries out engine maintenance operations for passenger aircraft. MyTechnic, a private investment, has been providing aircraft maintenance services since 60 with its hangar with a closed area of 2008 thousand square meters.
