Izmit Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge towers are rising rapidly: The tower height of the Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge, which constitutes the most important leg of the highway project that will reduce the distance between Istanbul and Izmir to 3,5 hours, has reached 54 meters.
Towers are rapidly rising in the construction of the Izmit Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge, which is the 4th largest suspension bridge in the world.
The AA team screened the works on the Izmit Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge, which is the biggest leg of the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway Project, which will reduce the transportation time between Istanbul and Izmir from 9 hours to 3,5 hours.
6,5 bridge to reduce the transition time of the Gulf to the height of the tower towers 54 meters can be easily seen by land.
Within the scope of the construction work of the bridge, which was laid 1,5 years ago with the participation of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the main body reinforced concrete works in the north and south anchorage area are completed, while concrete productions on the distribution legs continue.
Tower caisson foundations weighing 38 tons of buoyancy and 404 meters of buoyancy were immersed in the final positioning points where they were brought by floating for 10,7 hours. The north tower foundation was installed on March 12, and the south tower foundation on March 15.
Tower height reaches 54 meter
After the completion of the tower anchorage base and tie beam manufacturing works, the assembly of the steel blocks of the towers began on 8 July.
As a result of the installation work so far, the north and south tower heights reached 54 meters.
The steel blocks manufactured in Gemlik are brought to a shipyard in Altınova. Here, the blocks with ladders and safety platforms are hung on floating cranes rented from the Netherlands. After a distance of 1 hour, the blocks brought next to the tower foundations are assembled to each other as a result of the work that takes about 30 minutes.
The towers with an average of 10 meters per week are planned to be completed at the end of the year by exceeding the 250 meter. The four towers have a total of 88 steel blocks. The most heavy blocks of approximately 350 tonnes will be placed recently, while the top blocks will weigh 170 tons.
Studies continue 24 hours
One thousand 400 people work in the construction of the bridge works, weather conditions are suitable for the 24 continues for hours.
When the construction work is finished, the bridge will pass 6 lane road and single lane maintenance road. The suspension bridge built between Dilovasi and Hersek will be the fourth largest suspension bridge in the world with a middle opening of about one thousand 550 meters.
The edge openings of the bridge will find the 550 meter and the coarse height will reach the 64 meter.
Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir (Izmit Gulf Crossing and Connection Roads) Motorway Project will be 384 kilometers long, including 49 kilometers and 433 kilometers.
The project will start with a bridge intersection that will be formed approximately 2,5 kilometers from Gebze Köprülü Junction on the Anatolian Highway to Ankara direction and end at the existing Bus Terminal Junction on the İzmir Ring Road.
