The main cause of the accident is speed violations
Speaking on behalf of the General Directorate of Security at the meeting, Traffic Planning and Support Department Head Mr. Yılmaz Baştuğ said, “When we look at the average figures of the last 3 years in our country, speed violations come to the fore. We see that the other causes of accidents are transitional priority violations, non-compliance with return rules, rear impact, lane and maneuver violations. The Traffic Safety Platform carries out all efforts to achieve the targets set for our country in line with the Decade of Action in Road Safety, which was implemented by the United Nations and aims to reduce the deaths observed on highways by 2020 by 50%. We continue to sign new projects, inspections and trainings on traffic management, making roads safer, drivers' safer behaviors, increasing the safety of disadvantaged groups in traffic, post-collision emergency response and vehicle safety. There is a serious reduction in mortality rates, especially with the studies we have organized on seat belts and speed control. In order to increase the efficiency of the activities aimed at ensuring traffic safety, while carrying out national campaigns and social responsibility projects with our stakeholders, on the other hand, we attach importance and priority to the establishment of cooperation and coordination between public and private sector organizations. We cooperate with and encourage private sector organizations to develop and implement corporate traffic safety policy and internal audit procedures. In this context, we are conducting social responsibility projects called Traffic Responsibility Movement, Traffic Detectives with OPET, together with UDHB and TÜVTÜRK. We have also signed a cooperation protocol with 3M company on the efforts to increase the awareness of using reflective tape in drivers and the public. ”
