Interesting Results from the Transportation and Traffic Survey in Istanbul

Bahçeşehir University Transportation Engineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Interesting results were obtained from the 'Transportation and Traffic Survey in Istanbul' conducted with 10 thousand people living in Istanbul under the presidency of Mustafa Ilıcalı. According to the research, the rate of those who think that a permanent solution will be reached in Istanbul's traffic and transportation problem in the next five years with the possibilities of the municipalities is 46 percent, while 54 percent think that there will be no solution.

Most buses are being used

Only 3 of Istanbul residents can use sea transportation in city trips. The most preferred means of transport is the bus with 21 percent. This is followed by a minibus with 12 and Metrobus with 12. In Istanbul, 9 is the preferred ratio for rail systems, while 10 is preferred by private vehicles. An Istanbuli spends an average of 1 minutes in traffic every day.

No sea route

31 percent of Istanbul residents, who prefer sea transportation primarily, use Metrobus as their means of transportation in their cancellations due to adverse weather conditions. This preference is followed by Marmaray with 29 percent, bus with 15 percent and private car use with 11 percent. The centers that generate the most traffic are Küçükçekmece, Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Ümraniye and Bahçelievler. Heavy traffic checks are Şişli, Beşiktaş, Fatih, Kadıköy and Ümraniye.
